Dr. Byrne is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the Medical College of Ohio located in Toledo, Ohio. He is also Director of Neonatology at St. Charles Mercy Hospital in Oregon, Ohio. Dr. Byrne is Board Certified in Pediatrics and Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Medical Association. He graduated in 1957 from St. Louis University School of Medicine. Dr. Byrne previously served as Chairman of Ethics Committee for Oral Roberts University School of Medicine and for City of Faith Medical and Research Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Beginning in 1967, Dr. Byrne has testified before eight state legislatures concerning life issues. Dr. Byrne is an author of articles on brain death, anti-euthanasia, and anti-abortion in medical journals, law literature, and in the lay press. He is the author and producer of the film entitled Continuum of Life. He is also the co-editor of the book Beyond Brain Death: The Case Against Brain Based Criteria for Human Death. Dr. Byrne and his wife Shirley are the parents of twelve children and the grandparents of twenty-two children.
